Dolly-Parton

Dolly Parton, born Jan. 19th, 1946 in Locust Ridge Tenn. to a family of 12 poor kids who would grew up in the same household, understood very quickly how to navigate her way out of the challenges she encountered by using her rich and vivid imagination. Her songs were written before she was able to write or read. She got her first guitar when she was just 8 years old and began performing on a Knoxville Tenn radio station at the age of 11. In the same year, she recorded her first recording on Gold Band Records a tiny independent label. Despite being in school, she had already made a name of herself within the local community. Her goal was to make her name more acknowledged. She moved to Nashville just after she graduated in 1964. Dumb Blonde, Something Fishy and Dumb Blonde both charted on Monument Records in 1967. Porter Wagoner had been looking for a female performer for his show that was syndicated in the years prior to this. Parton was offered the gig in 1967 and signed with RCA Records in 1968 and joined The Grand Ole Opry in 1969. The show was cancelled by Wagoner, however, in 1974 because her solo albums like Joshua Coat Of Many Colors and Jolene exceeded the sales of their joint albums. Following their break-up, Parton wrote the song I Will Always Love You for Wagoner and the song reached the top spot at No. The first time it reached Number 1 was in 1974.
